Seismic Projects Since Loma Prieta

The City and County of San Francisco has completed 180 seismic retrofits or total replacements of public facilities in the 20 years since the Loma Prieta earthquake struck October 17, 1989. These range from small but critical pump stations and transmission mains to essential facilities like police and fire stations and the 911 Emergency Operations Center, and signature properties such as City Hall; the Ferry Building; the Main Library; the Academy of Sciences, Asian Art, and DeYoung Museums; and the International Terminal at SFO.
