The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department’s (RPD) mission is to provide enriching recreational activities, maintain beautiful parks, and preserve the environment for the well-being of our diverse community. With over 4,000 acres and 224 properties, RPD manages a large and diverse park system that provides recreation facilities and programs for all ages and interests of San Franciscans. Within San Francisco, its 3,400 acres make it one of the larger land managers within the City, providing outside access through mini-parks, playgrounds and recreation facilities, citywide parks, and open spaces.

Public Works

San Francisco Public Works cleans and resurfaces streets, plants and nurtures City trees, designs and manages facilities, and performs many other essential functions for the City's infrastructure. Building curb ramps, enforcing permits, and inspecting streets and sidewalks all fall under the department's purview. Public Works also partners with San Francisco neighborhoods, trains people for jobs, and educates local communities.

Public Library

Operating 27 branch libraries, the San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) system is dedicated to free and equal access to information, knowledge, independent learning and the joys of reading for our diverse community. Having recently completed the $196 million Branch Library Improvement Program, the SFPL is in the process of planning the renovation of three outstanding branches. The Library’s mission is evolving as access to technology and the provision of services take on a greater role in providing services to the public. SFPL is committed to serving local communities’ needs into the future and continues to program their spaces accordingly.

Port of San Francisco

The Port of San Francisco is responsible for the seven and one-half miles of San Francisco waterfront adjacent to San Francisco Bay. The Port manages, maintains, develops, markets, and leases all of the property in this area. The Port's operating portfolio is composed of approximately 580 ground, commercial, retail, office, industrial, and maritime leases, including leases of many internationally recognized landmarks such as Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, the Ferry Building, and AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants baseball team.

Police Department

The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) is committed to excellence in law enforcement and is dedicated to the people, traditions and diversity of our City. In order to protect life and property, prevent crime and reduce the fear of crime, the SFPD provides service with understanding, response with compassion, performance with integrity and law enforcement with vision. The SFPD operates 21 facilities including 10 district police stations, a crime lab, and a training academy.
