Sheriff’s Department

The mission of the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department (SFSD) is to be an effective and integral part of civil and criminal law-enforcement efforts of the State of California and the City and County of San Francisco. As an integral part of the community and a steward of taxpayer resources, the SFSD seeks to be cognizant, respectful, efficient, and transformative in the use of resources, its staff, and to the persons remanded to our jurisdiction by law. To perform its duties, the Sheriff’s Department manages six county jails in San Francisco and San Mateo Counties.
